Visaton Speaker Kit - Alto II
Art. No. 5967
Visaton Alto 2 (accessories not included) - shown assembled with suggested cabinets, not supplied.
Characteristics and Sound Properties
This 2-way column speaker, ALTO II (or Alto 2) designed as a 30 litre vented system, is another suggested application from the Alto series. The same driver arrangement has been selected as for the ALTO I but, here, the lower range octaves benefit from the enlarged cabinet volume and optimum bass frequency to produce powerful, responsive bass.
ALTO II is also well-suited to improving the sound of low-priced compact hi-fi systems. The ALTO II can be positioned freely anywhere in the room, producing clearly defined spatial sound character.
Extract from HiFi Test: "the elegant Alto II bass reflex column speaker fascinated us with its bass reproduction that would put many a speaker twice the size to shame." Value for money: very good
Extract from Klang & Ton: "Its bass reproduction is not only very rich and very powerful, but in addition highly precise, full of detail and free of colouration. Both the base and lower mid-range remained perfectly neutral.".. "Music reproduction is airy and far reaching." Value for money: very good

Assembly
In order to simplify the cabinet construction as far as possible, we have done without the chamfers shown in the photo. If you prefer to include the all-round front chamfer, you will need the following information:
Angle: 30°
Width: 10 mm
The cabinet consists of boards stuck together (butt jointed), making construction a simple matter. First of all, the individual boards are cut to size (refer to cutting list), stuck together (butt jointed) as shown in the drawing and firmly clamped for the duration of the drying time using sash-cramps or parcel tape. Once the cabinet has been completely built, the cut-outs are made for the speakers, bass tube and terminals using a jig-saw. The last job is the surface treatment, i.e. painting, veneering or adhesive film.
Internal Damping
The damping of the speaker uses four mats of damping material pushed into the cabinet through the bass cut-out. To this end, the mats are folded once long ways and once crossways and pushed into the cabinet in such a way that the space behind the tube remains free and the rest of the space inside the cabinet is loosely filled.
