    API4S Pulse Interface Amplifier

This high sensitivty Automatic Pulse Interface (API) was developed to eliminate problems that may occur when connecting devices to the speedometer signal carrier or other low level pulsed signal such as magnetic pickup transducers. In practice, the speedometer signal in a vehicle can be greatly affected when it is tapped for connections with other speed-dependent devices, such as a navigation, cruise-controls, alarms, black-box devices, taximeters, accident analysis or other systems.

Noisy or low-level signal data can cause errors with the engine management systems, navigation systema, taximateres or ofther signal measuring devices which rely on the speedometer signal; some may erroneously continue to run even when the vehicle is stationery.

Some speedometer signals may simply be too weak to drive additional systems. The API4S is able to solve a variety of problems. It comprises an amplifier capable of boosting a speedometer (or similar) signal into a 10V square block impulse, and a filter that deals with power spikes and surges. The API rectifies the bulk of possible speedometer errors. Built-in frequency divider for different output ratios. "Pulse-stop switch" prevents pulse going on even when vehicle stands still.

Suitable for 12-24 Volt systems with a high sensitivity input that can amplify signals with a 100 mV amplitude.

    Specifications:

    • Dual pulse output: 1:1 or 1:4 ratio (1:4 means to output is divided by 4)
    • Output: 10 Volt square waveform
    • Instructions included
    • Frequency range 0 - 4 kHz (min.) *
    • * The frequency range of the API has been tested up to 20kHz. At a WD number (number of pulses per kilometre) of 39000 and a speed of 200 km/h, the number of pulses per second is (=Hz): 39000 x 200 / 3600 = 2.16 kHz. The 4 kHz mentioned in the specifications is therefore more than adequate for the frequencies that occur in practice.
    • Supply voltage 10-15 V DC and 15-30 V DC
    • Current consumption 20 mA permanent
    • Input sensitivity adjustable
    • Temperature range -20°C to +70°C
    • Dimensions 50 x 25 x 10 mm (approx.)
